I'm Matt Simon. When I went down to the Bahamas to look for estate, I thought I knew everything I needed to know. After all, I had been in the business for over 20 years. I had bought and sold dozens of properties in eastern Massachusetts. I had developed large condominium projects in Boston, Chelsea, Medford, and Worcester. I had owned a real estate agency and a property management company, too. I knew my way around the real estate business.

My first interest in the Bahamas came almost by accident. I was single, then, and I met someone on the internet who lived in Nassau. She was shopping for a house, as it happened, and I was looking for a new place to invest. We started talking about real estate. I was amazed when she told me how inexpensive oceanfront land was on many of the islands. I knew the Florida real estate market well, and given how close the Bahamas were to Florida, and how stable and safe, the prices were a bargain.

I started researching real estate in the Bahamas. I spent many hours on the internet studying properties and prices, I spoke to other American investors who had bought real estate there, and I grilled the local real estate agents for information. I flew to the islands and looked at land. Soon I was making offers.

It was a lot of work preparing to invest in the Bahamas. It took a lot of time. And you know what? In spite of all my efforts and experience, I still made costly mistakes. Why? Because I didn't realize how much I still didn't know.

I learned from my experiences, though, and it wasn't long before I was giving advice to friends who were interested in the islands. I did the best I could for them, but I'm sure I didn't tell them everything I had learned' that would have taken all day. Meanwhile, I had begun to develop a 50-acre parcel of oceanfront land. Soon I was answering the same questions for my prospective buyers. I prepared documents for them summarizing Bahamian tax rates and financing options.

As I was sending out a packet of information one day, I thought about how nice it would have been if, back at the beginning, I could have found all the information I needed in one place.
